Requirements
As usual, there are some class requirements. At first, they may seem overwhelming. But the course is designed so that 95% of everything required can be fulfilled simply by attending worship and confirmation class each week—a church going habit you probably already have!
So here goes:
1) Get Acquainted Lock-In:
7:30 PM Saturday night, August 14 to 11:15AM Sunday, Aug. 15
A great night of fun, games, movies, food and maybe even a little sleep. Meet your teachers early in the evening and then rock through the night with our great middle school leaders team.Students will go to worship together at 8:45 and then to their first confirmation class at 10:15.
Our tradition at First is a vigorous one. We work hard! We get the real deal about Christ. We have a wonderful team of teachers and youth advisors leading your class: Brett and Ashley Sides; Louis and DeLisa Quinn; and Meredith and Justin Kelly.
For all the details on our Confirmation Class, please contact Cheryl Lott: cheryl@fpcbr.org or 387-0617.
2) Elder Sponsor:
Every confirmation student is matched with an elder from our church. The elders are there to encourage and nurture our students. There will be an elder/student breakfast at class time on September 20. (See last page of Elder listing)
3) Worship Attendance and Sermon Notes (at least 10 Sundays each semester: total 20)
Regular worship is a critical component of Confirmation class. Students should be worshipping with their families as well as attending class. Any of our 3 Sunday services qualifies. Of course we hope you’ll be there all 37 Sundays, but for half of those Sundays (10 each semester), we ask for students to fill out and turn in a “Sermon Notes” sheet. Our students find that this actually makes hearing a sermon easier! The note forms are available in class.
4) Memory Verses:
We’ll have 7 key memory verses, all from Scripture. They go along with what we’re studying
1) Psalm 8: 1-7
2) Psalm 23
3) Deuteronomy 6: 4-6
4) John 1: 1-5; 14
5) John 3: 16-17
6) Romans 3: 23, 6: 23
7) Romans 10: 9
In addition, it is expected that by the end of the year each student will know the Lord’s Prayer, the Apostle’s Creed and how to find quickly 66 books of the Bible.
5) One Getaway Retreat:
Pine Cove Fri. pm, January 14—Sun., January 17
This retreat is a mandatory part of Confirmation!
6) Class Attendance:
35 of 39 classes required. Missed classes can be made up by filling out a worksheet.
7) Pastoral Meeting:
A personal 15 minute meeting with a pastor in March or April.
8) Confirmation Sunday:
May 1, 2011, 4PM.
