Women in Ministry

KNOWING CHRIST THROUGH STUDYING HIS WORD

Open my eyes, that I may behold
wondrous things out of your law.
Psalm 119.18

God graciously reveals himself to us on the pages of Scripture, since all Scripture comes from God’s own Spirit. The Scriptures of God are able to make us wise for salvation as well as grow us in our knowledge of the truth. Going deeper in Christ, then, involves knowing Him through His Word.

To help you grow in your knowledge of Christ, Women in Ministry offers an array of Bible studies, small groups, study opportunities, and one-on-one discipleship. We know that we have many different women with many different schedules at First Presbyterian. Because of this variety, we provide several options for study rhythms (monthly vs weekly) and study times (day vs. night) to accommodate different needs.

If you would like to participate in a Women in Ministry Bible Study or find a small group, please contact the Women in Ministry Office (620.0224 or through www.fpcbr.org). Women in Ministry will assist you in finding a place of growth.

Different Bible Study Rhythms

CIRCLES: Circles meet once a month for Bible study, prayer, fellowship, and service.

SEMESTER BIBLE STUDIES: We offer weekly Bible Studies throughout both the fall and the spring. Some of these Bible Studies meet on the First Presbyterian campus, while others meet in homes or other venues.

SMALL GROUPS:  Usually, small groups meet weekly. Some small groups are organized by Women in Ministry and others spring up from the grass roots. Sometimes they are specific to age or life-stage, while at other times they are content- specific. Small groups take on many forms, but the consistent link is that each group intends to draw its women deeper into Christ through the study of the Word.

For further information for these groups please contact the Women in Ministry Office (620.0224).

Semester Bible Studies: Weekly

Tuesday Evenings in Genesis    7.00 to 8.30 pm at Paige Davis' Home

Calling all young women at First Presbyterian—come join us on Tuesday nights! This group is mostly composed of women in their 20’s and 30’s. Mary Willson will be teaching through Genesis, with a special emphasis on chapters 1-11. By God’s grace, we will come to know our Creator and Redeemer God in fresh ways as well as grow in our understanding of God’s heart for his world. This gathering is a wonderful (and fun!) place to experience Christian fellowship and spend time with other young women who also want to know Jesus and apply his Word to their lives. Please be in touch with Mary if you have questions (mary@fpcbr.org). This study will begin August 31.

Wednesday Mornings in Ephesians   6.30 to 7.30 am at Perks Coffee Shop
The Lord has established a wonderful and vibrant fellowship among the women of this group, and they are eager to know God’s Word and want to be challenged to think deeply about the Scriptures. Who knew that waking up early, drinking coffee, and studying the Bible in community could be this much fun? This study welcomes women of all ages. For the fall this group will read Eugene Peterson’s recent study in Ephesians—Practice Resurrection: A Conversation on Growing Up in Christ. Please be in touch with Mary if you have questions (mary@fpcbr.org). This study will begin September 1.

Thursday Mornings in Genesis   9.15 to 10.45 am at First Pres (EB 202)
Do you enjoy gathering with other women who want to study the Bible in-depth? If so, then we would love to have you participate in our study of Genesis this fall! Mary Willson will lead us, and we will particularly focus on the first eleven chapters of Genesis. Our group on Thursday mornings involves women of all ages and life-stages, and we enjoy the encouragement and privilege of multigenerational fellowship. Our hope is that we would come to know our Creator God and one another more deeply through our time together. We would love for you to join us! Also, please feel free to invite your friends who also want to grow in their relationship with Jesus and an appreciation of his Word. Childcare is available upon request. Please be in touch with Mary if you have questions (mary@fpcbr.org). This study will begin September 2.

Thursday Morning Young Mom’s Group      9.30 to 11.00am at First Pres (Bride’s Room)
Last year, a group of Young Mom’s began meeting for support, fellowship, prayer, and Bible Study. Most of the women in this group are in their 20’s and 30’s with small children. God has blessed this gathering with nurturing and wise women who are eager to love and speak truth into one another’s lives. This fall Jaime Carnaggio will lead the discussion. Childcare is available upon request. Please be in touch with Jaime if you have any questions (jlcarnaggio@yahoo.com). This study begins September 9.
