A digitally altered image of a brick building facade evokes 1812 church history with tall arched windows and decorative architectural details.

After a group of churches of various denominations had been established in the Baton Rouge area, they were organized into a unit for mutual assistance and for representation in the large national bodies. In Mississippi, the Baptists formed an association in 1806. Presbyterian churches in Mississippi, Louisiana, parts of Arkansas, Alabama, and Texas organized under the Synod of Kentucky. Groups of Christians continued to assemble in various communities and were supplied ministers by the Synod of Kentucky. Finally in 1822, Reverend Mr. Savage was sent by that Presbytery to serve as missionary to
Baton Rouge.
