They say good things come in small packages. That’s certainly true in the Bible. Did you know there are four New Testament books that are only one chapter long? Add the short three chapters of Titus and you’ve got five Tiny Wonders. That’s our winter focus in worship. Before that, we’ll each get a good thing in a small package: the new 3 Circles booklet. This is a wonderful way to understand and share the simple gospel message in a way nearly everyone can relate to. I look forward to giving you one and talking about it with you January 11.
Meanwhile, I hope we can all focus on the wonder of how the triune God makes himself known to us in tiny, but powerful ways. God is working. We just don’t see it because we don’t know how to look. So here are four steps to try:
1) Believe! The crucial first step to become aware of what God is doing is to make a decision to believe that God does indeed want to be real and noticeable in your life. Father, I choose to believe that you will work in my daily hours.
2) Surrender! There’s no way around this. Our God has built in a fail-safe mechanism so we can’t treat him like a magic worker. We won’t see him work if we don’t intentionally ask him to be Lord of our life. That means surrendering control to Christ. Oh Jesus, I surrender myself to you. Please take care of everything.
3) Ask! When we have entrusted ourselves to him, our God asks us to ask him for what we need, even what we desire. Write down what you desire the Lord to do. Here’s a helpful hint. Rather than give God solutions, give him those problems and concerns and ask him to be at work however he wants. Blessed Spirit, work in this area of my life.
4) Watch! Keep your eyes peeled for what can only be described as God-incidents. As you work through your list in prayer and Scripture reading each day, recall the events and conversations you’ve had. Consider where you might have seen the hand of God moving. Review your hours with expectant eyes.
These prayers are just tiny acts of devotion, but they have a mighty effect. Try these four steps daily for thirty days and let me know what happens! So grateful to be with you in Christ,
