We’ve collected some church history facts as First Presbyterian anticipates its 200th anniversary in 2027.

After the Revolution, newcomers came with dreams of good land for raising crops and families. Indian treaties were being negotiated. 1800 arrives and people began to push west as populations grew. More people came down the Mississippi River to Baton Rouge and New Orleans. By 1812 the Louisiana Purchase occurred between France and the United States. The War of 1812 began, sometimes called the Second Revolution. The British attempted to reclaim the Gulf and Mississippi River but failed at New Orleans. There are also records of a group of nuns in Acadia at Grand Coteau that held off British soldiers at a Catholic Church.
