Pastoral Search Intercessory Prayer

We invite you to participate in our process of calling a new Senior Pastor to First Presbyterian Church
by praying for the Search Committee, the Pastor God will call to the position, and for the congregation.

For the Search Committee:

Will Adams, Gerry Arnold, Cheryl Brodnax, Jennifer Cagley, Jamy Comeaux,

Laurie Lemoine

To be filled with Godly wisdom.
“We have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding . . . ” (Colossians 1:9).

For God’s direction and perseverance in examining resumes, sermons, and interviews.
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are my ways your ways, declares the Lord . . . you shall go out in joy and be led forth in peace . . .” (Isaiah 55:8-13).

Spiritual protection for the committee and the church against Satan’s attacks and deceptions.
“Be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the full armor of God
. . . for we do not wrestle against flesh and blood . . . ” (Ephesians 6:10-12).

Unity and desire for God’s will.
“Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit . . . let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ . . . ” (Philippians 2:3-11).

For the Pastor to Be Called:

Sharpen and develop spiritual gifts and fruits for the ministry at First Presbyterian Church of Baton Rouge.
“Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke and exhort, with complete patience and teaching . . . ” (2 Timothy 4:1-5).

Strong sense of call for the pastor and family, as well as spiritual protection.
“In view of God’s mercy, offer your body as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to
God . . .” (Romans 12:1-3).

“May words be given me to boldly proclaim the mystery of the gospel . . . ” (Ephesians 6:10-20).

God’s strength and guidance for the church this pastor will be coming from.
“Jesus said, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, my power is made perfect in weakness'” (2 Corinthians 12:9-10).

A smooth and welcoming transition for the pastor and family to First Presbyterian Church of Baton Rouge.
“Seek his kingdom, and all these things will be added unto you” (Luke 12:22-31).

For the Congregation:

Growing dependence and understanding of the Lord during this time.
“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:11-13).

Patience and unity as we wait on God’s timing.
“After waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised” (Hebrews 6:10-15).

Unity and joy in receiving our new pastor when the day comes.
“May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 15:5-6).
