Care Ministry

Pastoral Counseling

Pastoral Counseling typically involves a defined focus on a life challenge, such as a relationship difficulty or a
behavior where change is desired. Scripture, prayer in various forms, anointing with oil, and theological reflection individually and with the church community are resources. Each of our FPCBR pastors have experience helping individuals and families in life-changing ways. We are also blessed with outstanding Christian counselors at the third floor Christian Counseling Center, and referrals to a licensed therapist may be offered for more extensive work if needed.

Spiritual Direction

Spiritual Direction is an opportunity for intentional, set-apart prayerful presence, usually in a one-on-one setting to provide space for the directee to notice God’s presence and the voice of the Holy Spirit in a more attentive and developed way. Meeting with a director can be helpful when facing a new chapter in life, such as an empty nest, a change in jobs or retirement, a reevaluation of life due to a dramatic life event or a ‘tug’ from God through a sermon or prayer time. Rev. Scott Graham’s doctoral work
centers on Direction and Counseling, and FPCBR currently has two licensed Spiritual Directors endorsed by the church session. Contact Scott Graham or Laura Shaw for further information.

Inner Healing Prayer

There are times past traumas or decisions affect us in ways that may not be fully addressed by psychological therapies or medicines. Inner Healing prayer provides an additional opportunity to bring the Triune God’s powerful and healing presence into memories or current difficulties that may provide significant freedom (John 10:10). Pastor Scott and a trained partner provide this confidential ministry upon request.

GriefShare Ministry

The death of a loved one is one of the greatest challenges we face in life. GriefShare is a Christian program that has been used in thousands of churches over the past 25 years bringing expert counsel, alongside the love and gifts of God’s people, to provide healing and help in the midst of loss. FPCBR hosts these 13 two hour weekly sessions in groups that typically form twice a year. Well presented 30 minute videos touching on topics such as difficult emotions, loneliness, questions for God, and moving forward while remembering loved ones, coupled with discussion, prayer and support from others are important parts of the time together. Contact Scott Graham or Laura Shaw if you are interested in joining a GriefShare group.

Divorce Care

Divorce can bring a paralyzing combination of emotions and decisions to face, at a time when we likely feel hurt and fearful. FPCBR is starting a DivorceCare ministry, run in a similar manner to the GriefShare groups. Over 13 two hour sessions, groups address topics such as anger, the road to recovery, financial and legal issues, grief and depression, family and friends, and forgiveness. Scott Graham or Laura Shaw will provide additional details on our initial group forming.

Homebound Communion and Hospital Visitation

When illness, grief, surgery, or other pressing life events prevent you from joining us for worship, we are able to come to you. Pastor Scott as well as members of the FPCBR Session and Deacon board are ready to pray for you and bring the Lord’s Supper for your spiritual strengthening. In addition, if you would like prayer preceding surgery, please contact Scott Graham or
Laura Shaw.

Bereavement Ministry

The Bereavement Team walks alongside those who are mourning the loss of a loved one. This team serves as hosts to families during funeral services held at FPC, warmly welcoming and providing refreshments and other needs in order for the service to go smoothly. For more information about how to become a member of the Bereavement Team, please contact Becky Phillips at becky@fpcbr.org

Meal Ministry

We frequently support others experiencing a trial by providing food. If you are interested in receiving food, or if you interested in providing a meal for those in need, please contact Emily Viguerie at
